How to Finish Med School - General Concepts

how to finish med schoolThe road to becoming a doctor is a long one and it certainly won't be easy. In fact, I don't need to tell you that it won't even close to moderately difficult because you know that the difficulty level of this "game" is set to BRUTALLY HARD. Alright, so it isn't that bad, but it is what it is and without dedication, hard effort and many sleepless nights you won't ever get close to finishing it. The first step is to, obviously, finish collage which should take around 4 years. And, honestly, getting in isn't so difficult as it is to finish it. For this very reason it is hard to write a full guide or an advice column, but over a series of several articles I'll give you my insight into the whole deal.

You can scroll down to see the list of advice columns related to each subject or year of med school that will help you survive through them.

So, first of all how long will it last to get there? If you are here in the US and you plan to study med school this is something like a checklist that you need to keep in mind:

  • Collage ~ 4 years
  • Med school ~ 4 years
  • Additional training: residency and fellowship ~ 3 to 6 years
Therefor we can see that, at a bear minimum, it will take 7 years until you can practice medicine in United States (assuming that you've finished collage already). That's a very long time and you will hear that there a lot of people who failed their first or second year and thus took a bit longer to finish their education. But, here's the real deal though, if you can make it through the first two years feeling good and motivated then the road ahead should look a lot better.

The popular reason behind this is because there is a lot of study and theory during those two years because you need to build sufficient knowledge. After this you will get a taste of the real thing and possibly even get a chance to see how it is done and maybe even assist real doctors.
